October 21, 2012 OFFICIAL BOOK SIGNING AND FUNDRAISER: DISTRICT ALLIANCE FOR SAFE HOUSING

You are cordially invited to attend a Presentation, Q & A and Book signing of Feel Good Spaces:  A Guide to Decorating Your Home for the Body, Mind and Spirit for designer and new author Sherry Burton-Ways on Sunday, October 21, 2012 from 2 pm – 4 pm at the beautiful Akwaaba Victorian Literary Themed Bed & Breakfast in Dupont Circle, Washington, DC owned by Monique Greenwood, former Editor and Chief of Essence Magazine.

Please come out and show your support as she launches her first book “Feel Good Spaces: A Guide to Decorating Your Home for the Body, Mind and Spirit “.  A portion of the sales of the book , retailing at $21.95, will be donated to the District Alliance of Safe Housing, a non-profit organization, serving DC families who are victims of domestic violence as part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Excuses Begone! Make Your Home a Temple of Kindness and Love

I am not one to plug books by any author, but this one, Excuses Begone! by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer , internationally known speaker and spiritual guru,  struck me.  You may have seen Dr. Dyer on numerous PBS specials he hosts as part of their fundraisers on television.  I believe he has even been a guest on Oprah as well.  You  see I am a BIG fan of Dyer and  have been reading this book since after the New Year as part of my resolution to myself.  No more excuses!

Dr. Wayne Dyer lectures a group with a wonderfully serene environment as a backdrop.

Within the pages of this transformational book, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer reveals how to change the self-defeating thinking patterns that have prevented you from living at the highest levels of success, happiness, and health. Even though you may know what to think, actually changing those thinking habits that have been with you since childhood might be somewhat challenging.

I just finished it this morning while walking on my treadmill.  However, I found his consistent message about how your outer environment influences your inner environment refreshing.  Here is Dyer’s take:

“Make your home a temple of kindness and love.  Stay away from places that thrive on loud noise, alcohol consumption, smoking, and insensitivity.  Pay attention to the music you listen to, the art you view, even the arrangement of your furniture and flowers-all of it!  The more peaceful and loving your environment (and the people in it), the more you’re in a serene place where excuses aren’t on the agenda.  This is the environment in which self-defeating habits are most likely to fade from your consciousness.

Further reinforce your new way of being by having your surroundings reflect the design of what you want your life to look like.  In this energy, like-minded people will appear.  Choose to be in the company of those who hold a space for you to achieve the joy of maximizing, rather than minimizing, your highest human potential.”

Okay so I was like WOWWWWWWWWWWWW!  My aha moment realized in what I do as an interior environment coach and holistic designer.
