A Design Blog of Feng Shui Designer Sherry Burton Ways

Last week, while on my SOS Book Signing tour of Feel Good Spaces, I had a wonderful opportunity to visit the HGTV Smart Home 2013 in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

I was so thrilled by this experience and wanted to share this experience with you.

When we first pulled up the home, I was surprised honestly to see how small it was.  A few years ago I had the opportunity to see the Coastal Living Magazine’s Design Home off of Jeykell Island, GA and it was huge.  This house was small but very functional!  Here is the official press release about the home:

“Designed by architect Mike Stauffer, AIA, and constructed by Glenn Layton Homes, the HGTV Smart Home 2013 measures approximately 2,400 square feet and features more than 1,000 square feet of covered porches, decks and pool. Smart home technology connects many of the home’s appliances and devices, and allows occupants to monitor energy use and control home systems such as security, interior climate, lighting and other electronics. The HGTV Smart Home 2013 is built to meet the Consumer Electronics Association’s TechHome Rating specifications for technology infrastructure.

“The features and functionality of this home are like nothing we’ve ever offered in HGTV home giveaways, and set the standard for creative spaces and ways that consumers can use emerging technology to improve their homes,” said Jack Thomasson, HGTV house planner.

The pedestrian and bicycle-friendly Paradise Key South Beach neighborhood lies just five blocks from the Atlantic Ocean and a quick 20-minute drive from downtown Jacksonville, one of Florida’s most vibrant communities. Footpaths and wooden walking bridges dot the development, which embraces Florida-friendly landscaping and an indigenous plant palette to reduce lawn maintenance.

“This community’s thoughtful design vision and refreshing coastal architecture make Paradise Key a remarkable place to live and a wonderful setting to showcase the first HGTV Smart Home,” said developer Lon Walton. “We have an outstanding beach community, and we are very excited about this first location for the HGTV Smart Home.”

The fully furnished HGTV Smart Home 2013 features products provided by national advertising partners including GMC, Bassett Furniture, Moen, Shaw Floors, ADT Security Services, Bush Brothers & Company, Quicken Loans, Garnier, The Sherwin-Williams Company, Tempur-Pedic Management, LLC., Trex Company, Inc., and Char-Broil.”

My absolute favorite room was the family room which was just off the kitchen.  I also enjoyed the outdoor space and the master bedroom as well.  I think what I love most about this house is not the fancy gadgets but the tropical and bright inspired color scheme that was used throughout the home.

Perhaps you can be one of the winners of this great home.  Register at least twice a day at here
